WILL FOR FORM
The geography of Mexico is abrupt. Two powerful parallel
cordilleras, the Sierra Madre Occidental and the Sierra Madre Oriental run the
length of its territory. To the north these mountains penetrate the western
United States, while to the south they join together to form a knot of
mountains on the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The two ranges divide the country into
lowlands and highlands arranged in successive terraces that end on a vast
plateau. It is impossible not to think of the truncated pyramid, the emblematic
form of the Mesoamerican Civilization. This complicated geography is
responsible for the multiplicity of extensive valleys -each enclosed within
mountains, like a fortress- and for the variety of Mexico’s climates and
landscapes.
In the lowlands the air is warm and humid; on the high
tableland it is dry and, by night, quite cool. Contrasts and oppositions, but
also sudden combinations and unusual conjunctions.
The history of Mexico is not less intricate than its
geography. Two civilizations have lived and fought not only across its
territory but in the soul of every Mexican.
MEXICO
Two civilizations and within each of them, distinct
societies frequently divided by differences of culture and concerns.
Violent leaps from one historical period to another, from
polytheism to Christianity, from absolute monarchy to republic, from
traditional to modern society.
Nevertheless, through all these upheavals one can perceive a
will that tends, again and again, toward synthesis. Again the figure of the
pyramid appears: a convergence of different cultures and societies the
superposition of centuries and eras. The pyramid conciliates oppositions but
does not annul them. The process (rupture- reintegration -rupture-
reintegration) can be taken as a leitmotif of the history of Mexico the true
name of this process is the will for life.
A will sometimes plain, sometimes lucid, but always secretly
astir, even when it adopts the passive form of traditionalism.
Will for life is will for form.
Every sculpture, every painting, every poem, every song is a
form animated by the will to survive time and its erosions. The now wants to be
saved, to be converted into stone or drawing, into color, sound, or word.

PERSONALIZED SPANISH
PROGRAM
We would like to present to you detailed information
concerning our courses.
Orientation: The newcomer receives academic, cross-cultural,
program specific, logistics and health orientation from academic and
administrative personnel during his/her first week of program immersion.
Academic Setting: The nature of the Spanish program is
communicative by which the student acquires more so than learns the language.
He/She will be able to apply his acquired skills from day one. Emphasis is made
on oral production without hindering the importance in acquisition of the
listening, reading, and writing components.
Methodology: There are basically two types of
courses: a regular one and a survival skills course. For the regular course,
the first academic encounter with the student is to place him into one of our
seven levels of language mastery (See table below); thereafter the number of
hours for his/her program completion are estimated. The total number of
programmed hours for a regular course are 350 hours. This takes a person from
little to no knowledge to a significant mastery of the language. In order for
the student to be exposed to different intonations we monitor the various
teacher rotations which are generally every 50 hours. The courses are dynamic
and the Teacher-Student, Student-Student (when this applies) and
Student-Teacher relations are observed and cared for since they form the basis
for a good social climate essential for good performance.
For the survival skills course the program is scheduled to
last 125 hours, bringing the students from zero to a contact knowledge of the
language in specific every-day situations such as hotel reservations, plane
ticket buying, car rental, traffic sign reading, restaurant ordering and so
forth.
Program Advantages:
·
The student
chooses his/her schedule which may be one to two hours per day, or take as many
as four to eight hours per day in a total immersion design.
·
The classes
may be held at a company site or at either of our two locations.
·
Classes begin
one week after the signing of the agreement.
·
Up to 10% of
the number of hours convened may be canceled.
·
There is
continual academic observation and curriculum monitoring.
·
The course in
its final level may be very specifically tailored to the student or group
needs, i.e. international business terminology, management themes, or other
technical language needs.
Agreements: Once the number of hours to complete a
Spanish program are determined, an agreement of at least 100 hours is signed;
and in just one week after this, the course begins. It is the general policy
that upon the signing of the agreement, the first 50 hours (at $40. us dlls per
hour) are paid for and once these are given, the cost of the remaining 50 hours
is covered. We are flexible in understanding individualized needs, so we do not
hesitate to convene on reasonable modifications.
Lodging: The person coming to study to
Universidad Internacional has the option to benefit from a home stay, that is,
living with people in their homes to have the opportunity to perceive every-day
culture and enhance the language acquisition. There is also the possibility of
a more quiet setting through an apartment rental. However you decide you will
receive help in finding accommodation.
Culture: The person coming to Monterrey will
naturally have the advantages to enjoy the vast range in cultural appreciation
that Mexico has to offer. For that too you will receive guidance.
